July 3, 2018 - Holland America Line (HAL) and Phoenix Reisen announce that MS Prinsendam will leave the Holland America Line fleet in July 2019 and move to Phoenix. The new acquisition is named MS Amera. After several weeks in the shipyard, the cruise ship will start service for Phoenix in August 2019.
June 26, 2018 - On Friday last week, the first newbuild of the Costa Group exclusively destined for China floated in the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone / Italy. The ship is 323 meters long and measured at 135.500 GT. It carries a maximum of 5.100 guests.
June 18, 2018 - Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. (RCL), the world's second largest cruise company, has acquired a majority stake in the Monegasque luxury cruise brand Silversea Cruises. Royal Caribbean will have to spend around one billion US dollars to acquire 66,7 percent of the company's shares.
May 31, 2018 - Yesterday in Seattle, Washington State, Norwegian Bliss, the 16th ship in the NCL fleet, was officially christened. The godfather was the radio presenter Elvis Duran. When entering the port, the youngest NCL cruise ship was greeted with water fountains. During the 2018 and 2019 summer seasons, the new flagship will be offering 7-day cruises to Alaska.
May 31, 2018 - Three months before the AIDAnova is christened, the Rostock cruise line AIDA Cruises has named the first captain. It's Captain Boris Becker. He was previously in command of the AIDAperla.
May 26, 2018 - Norway is serious about environmental protection in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites Geirangerfjord and Næroyfjord. Norway's parliament is setting an example. From 2026, only emission-free ships will be allowed to call at the two fjords.
May 25, 2018 - AIDA Cruises' selection program comprises three ships: AIDAaura, AIDAcara and AIDAvita. More than 157.000 guests have traveled on the Selection ships since 2017. From December 2019, a fourth ship will be added with the AIDAmira. After the renovation and redesign, the cruise line is taking trips to South African destinations with the AIDAmira.
May 24, 2018 - Celebrity Cruises has four cruise ships of the new EDGE class built by the STX shipyard in France. The first ship, the Celebrity Edge, will leave Fort Lauderdale / Fl. on December 1, 2018 for her maiden voyage. Three sister ships will follow in 2020, 2021 and 2022.
