TUI Cruises has two more ships built

July 13, 2018 - The cruise company TUI Cruises, owned by the TUI Group and Royal Caribbean Cruises, is committed to expanding its fleet. In 2019 the Hamburg shipping company will have seven ships. But that's not all: two more large ships were ordered to meet the growing demand. The 161000 gross registered tons cruise ships are built by the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone.

For the German cruise industry this means that further opportunities for market growth are seen. The German market in particular is apparently not yet exhausted. Yesterday the contract for the construction of two identical ships was signed. These are built by the shipyard giant Fincantieri at the Monfalcone site. Both ships have a volume of 161.000 GRT. Wybcke Meier, CEO of TUI Cruises: “With the new ship class, we are fulfilling the wishes of our guests and creating offers that will also inspire new cruise guests to spend their holidays with us on board. As with the other ships in the fleet, the passenger-space ratio remains generous. Further details about the ships will be announced at a later date. "

The CEO of the Fincantieri shipyard adds that these are the largest ships ever built in Italy. TUI Cruises also declare that the company already has one of the most modern and environmentally friendly cruise fleets in the world. The ships use around 30 percent less fuel than ships of comparable size. There are also exhaust aftertreatment systems. Following the trend of the times, both new buildings are operated with low-emission liquefied natural gas.

The newbuildings will be put into service in 2024 and 2026, and the new Mein Schiff 2023 will be delivered in 7. At this point in time, the TUI Cruises fleet has a capacity of around 18.800 beds. They want to be sold. Finally, there are a few significant competitors.
