November 9, 2018 - The website Crew-center.com, operated by former crew members, reports that crew members of TUI Cruises have had unrestricted access to the guest areas in their free time since October 2018. What was previously reserved for the ship's officers and individual employees now applies to all crew members.
So far it has been an incontrovertible fact in passenger shipping that crew members are denied access to the guest areas in their free time. This does not apply to officers and employees outside the crew area, such as musicians, dancers, singers or shopkeepers. Only in strictly limited individual cases are crew members issued so-called “Leisure Time Cards” for access to the public areas during leisure time.
This is what it usually looks like on cruise ships
Since October 2018, Hamburg-based TUI Cruises, Germany's second largest cruise company, has been granting its employees access to the guest areas during their free time. This includes bars and lounges as well as the fitness area between 21pm and 00am

The website Crew-center.com quotes employees: “From now on we can spend our free time in the guest areas without leisure cards. This is the reward for our daily, first-class work and also for the fact that we regularly go the extra mile ”. However, crew members must wear name tags when visiting public areas. The TUI Cruises press office confirms the report.
Conclusion of the website Crew-center.com: "The personnel measure will result in a happier and more productive crew that is ready to perform 110 percent." That’s how it should be!
