MV WERFTEN receive export guarantees from the federal and state governments

MV WERFTEN, with locations in Wismar, Rostock and Stralsund, will receive export guarantees from the federal government in the amount of 2,6 billion euros for the construction of the first two global class ships. In addition, the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has secured further parts of the bridge financing with a guarantee. With this measure, the federal government wants to create and protect jobs. The so-called Hermes guarantees are also claimed by MEYER shipyard.

In 2016, the Asian tourism company Genting Hong Kong acquired MV WERFTEN. The aim of the takeover was to generate additional own capacities in the busy shipyard market. Over the next ten years the Genting Group will invest heavily in the fleets of the three cruise lines belonging to Genting.

So far, the Asian company has had its involvement with MV WERFTEN cost 840 million euros. This amount is made up of the purchase price and the coverage of start-up losses incurred during the three-year planning and development phase. Genting Hong Kong has invested over 300 million euros in upgrading the production facilities. Important for the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: the number of employees doubled over the course of three years to over 2.900 employees.

Four luxury river cruise ships were delivered one after the other within eight months. The first Endeavor expedition yacht and two giant ships of the Global Class are under construction. The ships hold up to 9.500 and 2.500 crew members. These dimensions, unimaginable for cruise ships, put the largest cruise ships in the Royal Caribbean Oasis class to date far in the shade.
