October 19, 2018 - MSC expands its bread and butter business with four luxury cruise liners. The order value is over two billion euros. The Fincantieri shipyard group can look forward to this spectacular order. The first ship is scheduled to go into service in spring 2023. The other ships follow at annual intervals.
The cruise line outlines the ships in a press release as guarantors of the most modern environmental technologies and carriers of state-of-the-art solutions and technologies for shipping. The Cruise ships should have highly innovative design and groundbreaking comfort and new relaxation options for guests. So much for the first announcements: It is unclear whether the four planned newbuildings will fly under the MSC flag or whether a new label will be established to upgrade the ship class.
Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman of MSC Cruises interprets the project as follows: “Due to the great success of our MSC Yacht Club, the luxurious ship-in-ship concept, and the great demand from our guests for exclusive holiday experiences, we see entry into the luxury segment as a natural and consistent further development of the MSC Yacht Club ”.
Due to the size of the ship (64.000 GT), guests can be offered special travel routes. The services are to reach a new level and a personal butler service, comparable to that of the MSC Yacht Club, will be available around the clock.

Michael Zengerle, MSC's German governor, predicts that German guests will be able to enjoy an even wider range of five-star cruises from 2023. The future luxury ships would come very close to a private yacht experience. - Undoubtedly there is a wealthy clientele among the "crusaders" who are looking for luxury experiences. Whether the established providers have to dress warmly from now on is another matter. After all, the ships come from the survey in areas that in and of themselves do not correspond to the ships of the luxury class.
