December 28, 2021 | A corona outbreak on board Mein Schiff 4 hit TUI Cruises last Sunday. As a result of several corona cases on board the cruise ship, around 300 passengers were forced to end their cruise early in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
TUI Cruises is currently using the 3G model (vaccinated, recovered, tested). The infected passengers were discovered during routine checks. They and their contacts were isolated in a quarantine area on board the ship. After leaving the ship, they went into quarantine on land. Mein Schiff 4 started a new trip on Sunday evening.

US cruise lines were hit much harder. According to the Washington Post, passengers on more than 60 cruise ships became infected with Covid-19 over the Christmas period. The result: Numerous ports in the Caribbean refused to allow cruise ships to enter the ports out of concern about the spread of the Omikron variant. Carnival Freedom, which was not allowed to call at the Caribbean islands of Bonaire and Aruba, is cited as an example. It is unclear how many passengers were infected on board the ships. The 2G plus rule applies on Carnival Freedom.
Symphony of the Seas
Dozens of illnesses have also been reported aboard Royal Caribbean's Odyssey of the Seas and Symphony of the Seas cruise ships. On board the Odyssey of the Seas alone, 55 people tested positive for Corona. As a result of the incidences, Royal Caribbean, the world's second largest cruise operator, closed its booking portals through January 10, 2022.
