February 3, 2023 - After more than ten years, Hapag-Lloyd Cruises is once again offering discovery cruises on North America's five Great Lakes. In spring and autumn 2023, the HANSEATIC inspiration will undertake six voyages to these extraordinary destinations.
The five North American Great Lakes are suitable destinations for the Hamburg shipping company's small expedition ships. Due to narrow lock systems, only a few passenger ships are able to navigate the Great Lakes. Retractable bridge wing and the shallow draft enable the HANSEATIC inspiration to travel through the 45-kilometre-long Welland Canal. The difficult-to-navigate waterway, it circumnavigates Niagara Falls, connects Lake Erie with Lake Ontario. Normally, the transit takes eleven hours. Eight locks are required to overcome the 100 meter difference in altitude.

After visiting the city of two states, the small ship continues to Sturgeon Bay and south of Lake Michigan to Milwaukee, where the Harley-Davidson Museum is located, among other things.
