October 29, 2019 - In mid-September 2019, it was heard that the Costa Smeralda was being delivered late. Costa Crociere SpA is now talking about a further delay. The Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland, has advised the shipping company of another delay. TheThe first Costa Smeralda cruise will start on December 21, 2019 from Savona.
Some time ago the shipyard admitted that the size, complexity and sophistication of the technology delayed the construction process. Despite the countermeasures taken, further problems appear to have arisen. The new building project is exceptional in terms of technology and product technology.

The delayed completion forces the shipping company to reschedule. The first Costa Smeralda cruise departs from Savona on December 21, 2019. Costa Crociere apologizes for what happened. The travel agencies and guests who have been booked on the cruises of the Costa Smeralda from November 30th to December 20th, 2019, and which unfortunately can no longer take place, will be informed immediately.
All affected guests will immediately receive all important information about the rebooking conditions. The company is planning a number of alternative dates for cruises with special conditions. The conditions are the same as for the Costa Smeralda cruises that were canceled in September.
As a reminder: Costa Smeralda is the first Costa Crociere ship designed to run on liquefied petroleum gas (LNG) at sea and in port. It will be measured at approximately 180.000 GT. Costa Crociere declares that Costa Smeralda is to be seen as a tribute to the "best of Italy".
