November 1, 2018 - Yesterday the Celebrity Cruises fleet was expanded with the Celebrity Edge. The new building constructed by STX France is described by Celebrity Cruises as groundbreaking. Less because of its size, but because of some spectacular innovations. With the takeover, the keel-laying of the sister ship Celebrity Apex was also celebrated.
With regard to the innovations made compared to the Solstice class, the shipping company speaks of fundamental changes. These essentially consist of significantly larger cabins, the unusual Magic Carpet platform and newly designed breathtaking suites.
A special cabin design provides 23 percent more cabin space and ten percent larger bathrooms than Celebrity Cruises guests were used to from the Solstice class. The “magic carpet” is exciting. The tennis court-sized lifting platform slides up and down on the starboard side of the ship. It does different things in deck areas 2, 5, 14 and 16: On the one hand, the magic carpet is a comfortable tender station (deck 2); in the other case it is, for example, a dining option for the "Dinner on the Edge". The Edge has a total of 29 dining areas.

While there was a 2.000 square meter lawn on the Solstice class ships, the 300 meter long Edge scores with a new roof garden area. During the day it will be a meeting place for games and activities. In the evening and at night, the area looked after by gardening experts mutates into a center for live music and film events.
Suite guests are also thought of. The number of upscale accommodations on board will more than double. In the noble zone "The retreat ”remains the gentlemen with a private pool, enclosed sun deck, a lounge and the Luminae restaurant stylish among themselves.

The sister ship, the Celebrity Apex, will be completed in 2020. Two more ships of this type class will follow in 2021 and 2022.
