The Avinguda de la Reina Maria runs between Plaça d'Espanya and Plaça de Carles Buïgas. The “Torres Venecianes” built on both sides of the avenue following the Plaça d'Espanya are a curiosity. The towers modeled on the Venetian campaniles flank the entrance to Barcelona's old exhibition center and the Palau de Congressos.

In the center of the Plaça de Carles Buïgas is the large, imposing fountain of the Font Màgica. Like most of the surrounding buildings, it was erected on the occasion of the 1929 World's Fair. Even during the day, the system impresses with its sheer size. When it gets dark, the fountain turns into a magical place. Illuminated fountains lasting 15 minutes and associated, various music arrangements enchant visitors.

Font Màgica - the water show in numbers

The official name of the fountain system is Catalan Font Màgica de Montjuïc. The oval water basin measuring 50 by 65 meters impresses with the interplay of water, movement, color and music. From more than 3.600 nozzles, 2.600 liters of water per second are pressed through the pipes and valves and catapulted to considerable heights. The lighting system belonging to the fountain illuminates the scenery in eight colors. A sound system plays almost 30 popular pieces of music, from classical to opera to rock. Behind the Font Màgica, illuminated water cascades lead up to the Palau Nacional.

Useful recommendations for cruise ship guests

The demonstrations, which take place several times a week in the summer season, do not cost any admission. On the operating days they are repeated with different melodies. Guests of overnight cruise ships in Barcelona make use of the programs offered by the shipping companies to visit the water games. The offers of the shipping companies are not overpriced and easy to complete.

The individualists among the ship's guests use public transport to visit the Font Màgica. You leave the port area with the shuttle bus and go over to the Drassanes metro station. From there you can take the L3 metro to Plaça d'Espanya in six minutes. Then follow the Avinguda de la Reina Maria to Font Màgica. It really doesn't get any easier or cheaper.
